VOLUNTEERING WITH THE ORINDA HIKING CLUB
2011 is our 4th year of giving back to our hiking venues by helping to clean up east bay parks. We started out doing general trail maintenance, but soon found that removing old barbed wire fences ("de-fencing") was our cup of tea. It's a good mix of light and heavy work with something for everybody.
With the help of Burt Bogardus, a retired ranger, we have become efficient experts at the task and are much in demand by parks' management. East Bay Regional Parks (EBRPD) and Walnut Creek Open Space (WCOS) have been the biggest beneficiaries of our hard, but fun work.
| Is this fun, or what? | A day in the park! | The fruits of our labor. |
We meet at 9:00a on the 2nd Thursday of every month and leave between 2:00 & 3:00. If you're interested in or even just curious about becoming an 'OHC De-Fencer', just email me and I will add you to the distribution list for the monthly announcements.
